Happy Friday, people of Beaverton! Let's start today off on an informed note, shall we? Here's everything happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy. High: 64 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Tune in to KOIN.com to hear an interview with the executive director of the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Beaverton, Rowie Taylor. She discusses the importance of the month in creating awareness for how the issue affects the entire community. Taylor notes that the resource center experienced a surge in calls with the onset of the pandemic, and she explains how advocates were able to assist those in need.
  2. Got your Ale Trail Passport yet? The free, journal-style booklet features 22 craft breweries in the Tualatin Valley, including seven breweries from the Beaverton area. It reflects the recent proliferation of this type of establishment on the Westside. Local brewer Michael Kinion attributes the trend to population growth and a culture of collaboration among the breweries. Check out more on the program at Pamplin Media Group.
  3. Looking for some sports to watch this weekend? Don't just turn on the TV— go watch some amazing athletes in real life! OregonLive's Joe Freeman offers a list of high school football events. A few local options include Sunset at Westview, Southridge at Mountainside and Jesuit at Aloha, all on Friday.
  4. Some changes are afoot over at PCC, including the departure of Executive Vice President Sylvia Kelley, a Beaverton resident. Kelley served in the position for the past seven years. She reflects that she "probably learned more at Portland Community College in the work that I did than all of my jobs put together," and that she'll miss the school's passionate community. Read more about her time at the institution over at Pamplin Media Group.
  5. Click your way to the Beaverton Farmers Market Newsletter to get ideas for how to make the most of fall's bounty. Highlights include distinguishing cooking apples from eating ones and a recipe for Wagyu Osso Bucco featuring meat from Mason Hill Cattle. The newsletter also offers an update on the City Park Fountain, slated to be ready for action this spring.
