Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:
- KOIN reports that Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clark Counties now recommend masks in public indoors, following the CDC's update. There's no mandate yet. (KOIN)
- An armed robbery of a taxi driver in Beaverton led to a 6-year sentence for a 19-year-old on Monday. Authorities say Josiah Johnson pulled a gun when his driver refused to accept a counterfeit bill. The driver and Johnson scuffled and the gun went off, hitting Johnson in the buttocks. (OregonLive)
- The U.S. Center for SafeSport banned track coach Alberto Salazar over 'emotional misconduct.' The controversial former Nike trainer was designated "permanently ineligible" to participate in track and field activities. The ban follows a January 2020 temporary bar when multiple elite female runners spoke out against Salazar, including Kara Goucher and Mary Cain. (UPI News)
- Max Egener reports on Washington County paying out in a discrimination settlement. Glenda Quezada, who worked for the county as a bilingual communications and education specialist, says co-workers made repeated offensive and demeaning comments about her race. County Commissioners approved her settlement July 20. (Pamplin Media Group)
- Gordon Welsey Cronk Jr., 30, of Aloha, is charged with stealing a gun during a violent clash in front of a Salem Planned Parenthood. The conflict took place during an anti-abortion protest. Cronk, associated with the Proud Boys, reportedly nabbed the gun from a counter-protestor. (Salem Reporter)
