🌱 Small Business Saturday + Five Oaks Hosts Five Oaks
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

Happy Small Business Saturday, Beaverton! Let's start today off on an informed note.
First, today's weather:
A touch of afternoon rain. High: 59 Low: 55.
Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:
- More information has emerged about the Beaverton rideshare driver accused of rape: The Washington County Sheriff's Office says that Omar Al Naser drove for Lyft between August and November 2021 and is urging other potential victims to come forward. Al Naser was arrested earlier this week for allegedly abducting a passenger, taking the person to his home and committing rape in late October. Lyft's safety report documents more than 4,000 sexual assault cases from 2017 to 2019, according to the AP News article.
- Holiday driving tends to be treacherous, and this year is no exception. Beaverton Police report that an intoxicated individual clipped an ODOT vehicle as it was responding to another crash on Highway 26 near the Cornell Exit. Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident, but a resultant oil slick slowed traffic Friday morning. (Instagram)
- A Beaverton Dance Center alum has made it big! The name Hannah Corbin is very familiar to Peloton subscribers, but the instructor's roots are humble: she started with the stationary cycling company eight years ago when it was common to have one person in a class; today Peloton boasts 6.5 million subscribers worldwide. Corbin's first memories of dance were at the Beaverton Dance Center, where she says she started out "just learning to clap on the beat." By age 17, she was accepted to a New York City school on scholarship, moved away from Oregon, and the rest is history. (Tip from me: Check out her series on foam rolling, OMG so amazing!) - Five Oaks Middle School now has an outdoor walk-through exhibit by Five Oaks Museum. Featuring a series of yard signs, QR codes and art images, the display showcases Native American heritage and indigenous artists. The purpose is to create a greater understanding among students and the community for the Kalapuyan land on which the school and the school district sit. Hear from teachers and students about the project at YouTube.
- More hype for the 'Hillsbrew Festival' coming to Washington County in February. Andi Prewitt of the Willamette Week reports that it's been nearly two years since the area has seen a large-scale brewfest like the one slated to be held at the Wingspan center in early 2022. The event's organizers were planning on a similar event — the Westside Beer Festival — in September, but they canceled after monitoring pandemic updates from Gov. Kate Brown and the Oregon Health Authority. Proof of vaccination (or a negative COVID-19 test) will be required, and minors are prohibited.
