🌱Small Plane Lands On Evergreen + Bank Robbery In Tigard

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Good morning Beaverton. Read about a couple of people who have made it their business to find missing people, a bank robbery in Tigard and a very short flight that ended up on a Hillsboro roadway. The neighbors are always up to something interesting, aren't they? I'm your recurring guest curator, Merlin Douglass. Let's take a look.

First, today's weather:

Say it with me, sun isn't everything. Possible showers. High: 72 Low: 52

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. A teen who survived the April crash on TV Highway shared his story with KATU. Sky Kurbut, a student at Southridge High School, said that he recalls little of the incident: "I just remember helicopter noises and waking up in the hospital eight days later." The driver of the vehicle, Xavier Rodriguez, 18, faces multiple charges, including manslaughter for the accident that left two deceased and four injured.
  2. A small airplane was forced to make an emergency landing in Hillsboro Tuesday. The plane lost power after take-off and had to land immediately on the runway, but the pilot was unable to stop the plane before it ran off the end of the runway and into a nearby roadway. The two occupants were unhurt and walked away from the plane. (KOIN)
  3. The Wells Fargo bank on Hall Boulevard in Tigard was robbed yesterday afternoon around 1:30 P.M. Early reports don't say how much money the thief got away with. Nobody was injured, and the police haven't released a description of the robber yet. (KPTV)
  4. More information is coming out about the people who found Cornelius Mayor Ralph Brown's body. The team of Doug Bishop and Jered Leisek, known collectively as Adventures with Purpose, have found two dozen missing people in response to requests for their help on cold cases. The duo has a YouTube channel documenting many of their cases that you can view here. (Forest Grove News-Times)
  5. A local environmental group, Treekeepers of Washington County, is fighting a proposed development at Northwest Leahy Road in unincorporated Washington County. Washington County has already given the developers preliminary approval but the group has appealed that decision which requires the county to hold a public hearing which was held May 31, and a public comment period which is open until June 14. Melissa De Lyser, Washington County Land Use and Transportation spokesperson, said that the challenge for the county is to balance the need for additional housing with the protection of natural resources.
