Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:
- Tuesday was election day. Washington County voters offered their thoughts on the ordinance to repeal a ban on flavored tobacco products, four open city council positions and several seats on the Board of County Commissioners. Stay tuned for the latest! (750 KXL)
- SteepleJack Brewing's second location is now open on Southwest Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway. The new addition features SteepleJack's award-winning Alewife, artisanal pizzas and a beautiful Craftsman interior. There's also a sunny patio space to enjoy between rain showers. (Willamette Week)
- A Westview student won big recently. Junior Rishab Jain received one of just two $50,000 Regeneron Young Scientist Awards at the 2022 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair. It's one of the largest fairs of its type in the world. Jain's work involved AI-powered biomedical technology. (OregonLive)
- A spot has finally been picked for Beaverton's year-round homeless shelter. The site at Southwest Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway near Highway 217 contains a 12,000 square foot commercial building, which the City will convert to a space for beds, meals, showers and a clinic. The facility won't have many requirements for admission, but guests will have to pre-register. (Pamplin Media Group, subscription required)
