Teen Girl Sexually Abused By Beaverton Youth Basketball Coach, Police Say

BEAVERTON, OR — A youth basketball coach in Beaverton was arrested earlier this month for sexually abusing an underage girl multiple times, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Laurence Christopher Metz, 34, was arrested in Beaverton on Oct. 6 and lodged at the Washington County Jail on four counts of second degree sex abuse, police said. He posted bail and was released the same day; Metz pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Metz's next scheduled court date is at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Washington County Law Enforcement Center, 215 S.W. Adams Ave. in Hillsboro.

Court documents obtained by Patch accuse Metz of subjecting a girl under 18 years old to sexual intercourse at her home on or about Nov. 1, 2016. Metz reportedly met the girl and her family while he was a youth basketball coach at VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa, located at 13900 S.W. Meridian St., near the Nike World Headquarters in the Cedar Hills area.

Detectives with the Washington County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse Unit and officials from the Oregon Department of Human Services began investigating the case in December 2016, police said.

Through their investigations, law enforcement and state officials learned Metz operates the Metz Basketball Academy and taught classes at The Courts in Beaverton, a 30,000-square-foot sports facility at 14523 S.W. Millikan Way, just down the road from VillaSport. Based on Metz's access to minors, officials have reason to believe there may be more victims and ask anyone with information about this case or Metz to contact law enforcement at 503-846-2500.
