🌱Thousands Without Power Saturday + Roy Rogers Construction

Welcome to the Beaverton Daily— your go-to for the latest on all things Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Hey, Beaverton! It's Sunday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

A shower and thunderstorm. High: 58 Low: 51.

Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Over 5,000 people were without electricity Saturday morning near the area of Southwest Murray Boulevard and Jenkins Road, according to PGE. Crews were able to restore power to that area by about noon. Another 1,000-or-so folks near Southwest Scholls Ferry Road lost power around 12:40 PM due to a fallen tree. Sam Campbell reports that the outages came before the brunt of the storm that's set to arrive Sunday. (KOIN.com)
  2. Beaverton's own Grace Massey is tearing it up for OSU women's volleyball. She's just 20 digs away from becoming the school's all-time record holder. Despite Massey's impressive performance, the Beavers lost to USC on Friday. (OSU Beavers)
  3. Get a local's perspective on the Haitian missionary kidnappings after a report revealed that one of the 17 people taken was from Oregon. A Beaverton woman who has led missions to Haiti in the past remarked on the situation, saying that her group decided not to go in the last two years because conditions were too unsafe. She added that mission groups are responsible for their own safety. Read more of the details at KATU.
  4. Heads up for when you're driving around the area this week: Washington County Land Use & Transportation reports a new road project is starting on Monday. A southbound lane will be closed on Roy Rogers Road from Highway 9W to Scholls Sherwood Road for concrete island removal, Monday through Friday. The Roy Rogers Road/Borchers Drive's traffic signal will be shut down for construction during that time. (Washington County)
  5. KATU featured Washington County in its Things 2 Do segment on Friday. Reporter Wesleigh Ogle highlighted the TV Ale Trail and Oregon's only sake brewery, SakéOne, in Forest Grove. The article also showcased the array of farms for pumpkins and apples and offered a shoutout to the 21-mile Banks-Vernonia State Trail and the 60-mile Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway. (KATU)
