🌱 Tigard Festival Of Balloons To Return + Caspian Kabob Opens
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

Welcome back, Beaverton. I'm here in your inbox today to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on around town.
First, today's weather:
Clouds and sun with a shower. High: 70 Low: 51.
Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:
- The Nike campus boasts some of the most eye-catching architecture in the region, but it's often inaccessible to the public. Now you can (virtually) tour the new Serena Williams Building with writer Izzy Kornblatt of Architectural Record. The 11-story, LEED Platinum-certified building has over 200,000 square feet of lab space, a native plant garden modeled after Williams' tennis swing, a U.S. Open-replica bathroom and an extensive art collection. The building opened in April.
- Washington County is booming people-wise, according to recent Census data. Check out your neighborhood's growth from 2010 to 2020 using a cool tool available on OregonLive. During that time, the North Bethany neighborhood more than tripled in population, with farmland making way for large-scale housing developments. Good schools, lack of alternative housing options and being perceived as safe are among the reasons families flocked to that part of the Metro area.
- And with so many people heading this way, Westside traffic is certainly on the increase. However, one Cedar Hills resident opines that it might be worse than it needs to be. Find out David Murray's thoughts in a letter he penned to the Portland Tribune following conversations with a Washington County worker and someone from the sheriff's office.
- Miss Juneteenth Oregon 2022 is a Beavertonian. Fatima Brotherson-Erriche, a student at the Oregon Charter Academy, was crowned this year's scholarship recipient. (OregonLive)
- Looking for a new kabob spot? Caspian Kabob officially opened its doors on Tuesday in the West End District, near the intersection of Southwest Murray Boulevard and TV Highway. The eatery relocated to the Westside after success at North Portland's Prost Marketplace pod. (OregonLive)
Today in Beaverton:

- The Cream Comedy Show - Catfish Lou's (6540 Southwest Fallbrook Pl.) welcomes five of the area's top comics. Avery Scott II, Dahlia Delu Belle, GA Wade, Lance Edward and Isaac Chambers share the stage. Tickets start at $22.50. (8 p.m. - midnight)
From my notebook:
- See the latest Beaverton-area houses on the market at the Beaverton Patch. There's a tidy-looking home near Willow Creek for just under $500K, a mid-century townhome in West Beaverton and a fresh three-bedroom near Sexton Mountain.
- The Tigard Festival of Balloons is coming back June 24-26. The family-friendly fundraising event features hot air balloons, food vendors, live music and the stunning Night Glow each evening. Click the link to find out more and snag your $12 three-day passes.
