🌱Tigard Police Get Goats + Beaverton's Shelter Struggles
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

Greetings Beavertonians! It's Saturday and it's time for all things newsworthy.
First the weather:
No rain but it's still cloudy. At least there will be sun breaks. High: 54 Low: 34
Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:
- Beaverton's three term mayor, Denny Doyle, has been charged by the FBI's Child Exploitations Task Force with being in possession of child pornography. Details are sparse at the moment. Doyle is accused of possessing pornographic images of children, including images of children under the age of 12. Doyle made his first appearance before a federal magistrate Friday afternoon. (OregonLive)
- Jewell School District on the northern Oregon coast, has suspended top superintendent Steve Phillips and placed him on paid leave while an investigation takes place. Before working for the Jewell school district, Phillips worked for the Beaverton School District where he was forced to resign in 2018 for tweeting offensive remarks about undocumented immigrants. According to the article it isn't clear yet why Phillips was suspended and what he is being investigated for. (OPB)
- Tualatin library has a new children's librarian. Alec Chunn was a children's librarian for Eugene where he established school aged programming, an outreach program with local schools and a professional development program for teachers. His message to Tualatin kids is there's nothing more magical than a library card. (Tualatinlife)
- Should Beaverton allow homeless shelters in the city year round? If they do, where should they be placed? These are the questions that city officials are grappling with, most recently at the March 1 City Council Meeting. Currently the city provides shelter for unhoused citizens at the community center and it is only open during the winter. - Want to see the police get someone's goat? Literally. Tigard police posted this video on Twitter about trying to round up some errant goats. The goats had escaped from their yard, and this 2 minute 15 second video shows a Community Services Officer rounding them up. It isn't as easy as it sounds. (Twitter)
