Good morning everyone. It's Sunday and I'm Merlin Douglass, your regular guest Patch curator. Good to see you! Here's what I've got for you today.
First, today's weather:
'Weather' or not it suits you, it's a cold and rainy day. High: 47 Low: 38
Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:
- Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue reported it had to extricate two people who were trapped in vehicles after a crash in Tigard early Saturday morning. Two cars crashed into one another on 217 in the northbound lanes near the 72nd Avenue exit. In all, five people were sent to the hospital. (KOIN)
- KPTV Fox 12 came to Beaverton to learn to shop for healthy foods on a budget. Dr. Diane Stadler, nutritionist at OHSU showed them around Grocery Outlet offering tips and tricks to get the most for your grocery dollar. See the short video here.
- A Washington County deputy had to arrest three drunk drivers in a single night Thursday. In one instance, as he was conducting a routine traffic stop, a drunk driver came out of nowhere and crashed right in front of him. No details were given about the other two arrests. (KOIN)
- If that weren't enough, on Saturday night, a drunk driver crashed into a telephone pole at 165th and Pike in Aloha. The driver then abandoned the car and fled. Police K9 units tracked down the suspect, and the driver was arrested and charged with several offenses. (KATU)
- Friday was the opening day for the Hillsboro Hops baseball team at the Ron Tonkin Field and the beginning of its new 132-game season. Previous seasons have run at a 76-game schedule that started each June. Team members and fans alike are delighted to be able to be back in person after missing games due to pandemic restrictions.
