Hello, people of Beaverton! It's me again, Ash DeMello, your host of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sun followed by some clouds. High: 48 Low: 33.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Washington County Sheriff's deputies say that a woman drove a minivan through an Aloha barbershop Friday. The incident took place near the corner of Southwest 209th Avenue and Tualatin Valley Highway around 1:30 PM. The woman was arrested for DUII and reckless driving. No injuries were reported. (KOIN)
  2. The Washington County Government issued a Black History Month Proclamation for 2022. Click over to the Press Release Desk to find links to the full proclamation and a video presentation from the county's Board of Commissioners.
  3. The legend of the Oregon blue-tailed squirrel lives on in Beaverton. Hear from The Mercury News' Flora+Fauna columnist on why sightings are more likely construction site painting mishaps than a whole new breed.
  4. Jonathon Bach reports on why investors are pouring billions into Portland-area apartments. $4.314 billion worth of multi-family deals went through regionally in 2020, not the least of which was the $145 million sale of Seven West at the Trails in Beaverton. Experts attribute the continuing interest in investing to the area's booming population. (KGW.com)
  5. Click over to the Writers' Bloc podcast by KOIN.com to hear from Beaverton author Carolyn Wood. The former Olympic swimmer chronicles her time as a Kennedy governess in her book, Class Notes: A Young Teacher's Lessons from Classroom to Kennedy Compound.
