(Patch Media)

Good morning friends and neighbors! Welcome to the palindrome that is this (Twos) Tuesday. I'm Merlin Douglass, filling you in today and all the latest. Your regular Patch curator, Ash DeMello, is away for the day but she'll return tomorrow.

First, today's weather:

Warming up to just above freezing today. High: 35 Low: 22.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Two Beaverton warming shelters have been opened by Washington County as overnight temperatures dip into the teens. Transportation can be arranged and pets are okay. (Twitter)
  2. In a case involving Nike, the Oregon Employment Department has rules that workers who don't comply with employer vaccine mandates aren't eligible to collect unemployment benefits. (OregonLive)
  3. Congratulations to Westview girls who did so well in the Oregon state swim championships. See the Portland Tribune photo essay. (Subscription required)
  4. Now is the time to think about the pruning chores in the yard. Don't know what to cut? Don't worry. Oregon State University Extension Service horticulturist Nicole Sanchez has produced several short videos explaining the process. (OregonLive)

Today in Beaverton:

  • If staying indoors has everyone climbing the furniture there's help on the horizon. Let's Get the Wiggles Out storytime at the Beaverton Library is for ages 3 - 6, times this morning from 10:15 am to 11:00 a.m.
  • Aramark has a hiring event at the Nike campus today, 15350 SW Koll Parkway from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. They are looking for cooks, food prep, dishwashers and more.
  • This is your reminder that you can live stream the Sunset vs. Beaverton girls basketball game on YouTube at 7 p.m.

From my notebook:

  • Tuesday is the day to make an appointment for free tax preparation help for seniors at Elsie Stuhr Recreation Center at 5550 SW Hall Blvd. The center opens at 8 a.m.
  • The date 2/22/2022 is considered auspicious in the Chinese calendar because of its even numbers and the fact that it is a palindrome (the same forwards and backwards), according to South China Morning Post.
  • I am reliably informed it is National Margarita Day. Do with that what you will.
