🌱WashCo Election Results + Neil Simon Play In Hillsboro
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

Hello fellow Beavertonians. Lots of news today what with the election, an ongoing murder trial, and good news for Hillsboro's economy. It's good to see you today. I'm Merlin Douglass, your regular guest curator.
First, today's weather:
I got an actual sunburn yesterday but today, rain. Sigh. High: 43 Low: 58
Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:
- Hard to know who won the elections, what with the Washington County website down. County officials are quick to say the outage is not a result of an outside attack, and it doesn't affect the county's ability to count votes. The problem is believed to reside in hardware issues and the county is working with the hardware vendor to restore the site. (Pamplin)
- While many races are still in the air, there were some predicted winners. The flavored tobacco ban is upheld (Pamplin), it looks like schools will get their $723 million dollar construction bond (Pamplin) and Hillsboro's police/fire/parks levy and Forest Grove's replacement levy for police/fire/parks and libraries both passed (KATU).
- Washington County-based romance novelist, Nancy Crampton Brophy, accused of her husband's murder, took the stand in her defense Monday and Tuesday. She was asked about large insurance policies, ghost guns and the morning of her husband's death. When defense attorneys asked her if she killed her husband, she responded, "I did not." (KGW)
- Braeden Reiss, 26, of Sherwood, is in Washington County jail today after sending federal authorities multiple emails detailing his desire to kill children at Middlewood Elementary School in Wilsonville. As current Oregon law does not allow for felony charges for this behavior, Reiss was arrested for multiple counts of first degree disorderly conduct, and investigators worked with the courts to require a larger than normal bond of $50,000. No firearms were found in a search of Reiss's residence. (OregonLive)
- Hillsboro has been identified as a data center hot spot. Reasons for its emergence and rising profile include abundant power, a prominent enterprise zone, Oregon business-friendly tax policies and a climate that helps keep servers cool. The biggest business driving Hillsboro's success in this area currently is Meta, known colloquially as Facebook, which has pre-leased multiple buildings to house their equipment.
