Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:
- An education expert released findings regarding the availability of childcare to the Beaverton Valley Times in a recent opinion column. Katie Riley, who holds a doctorate in education and serves as president of Washington County Kids, said that her organization's research showed the potential for a severe childcare shortage in Washington County that would negatively impact the economy if there wasn't a major investment made soon.
- A body found near the Hillsboro Airport two weeks ago has been identified. Hillsboro police say the individual was Don Askey, who was reported missing in 2015. Authorities say the body had been deceased for some time. (KOIN.com)
- A Washington County man faces federal charges for threatening a school in Sherwood last month. The county district attorney's office referred the case to the U.S. Attorney's Office because Oregon law does not have provisions for prosecution of such threats. The Washington County District Attorney's Office identified the suspect as Braeden Richard Riess, age 26.
- Discover what the local PD has been up to with the Beaverton Police Log in the Beaverton Valley Times. Among the incidents to which officers responded was a home invasion on Southwest 84th Avenue on June 8. Officers say a suspect entered a home through an unlocked door, then made himself at home, donning the homeowner's clothes, opening the mail and helping himself to a snack.
