Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:
- Big news for parents around the state: Oregon is issuing $408 payments starting yesterday (Thursday) to help pay for food for kids. Although intended to bridge the gap for lower-income families, additional households may receive benefits due to "community eligibility" rules. Dozens of Beaverton School District elementary schools fall into this category, which means all kids who attend those schools will get the payments regardless of family income. (OregonLive)
- A 77-year-old woman was found safe Wednesday evening after her family reported her missing and endangered. Washington County Sheriff's deputies located Carolyn Poore around 10:30 PM later that night. Deputies issued a message thanking the public for their help in finding Ms. Poore. (KPTV)
- Washington County has another heat-related workplace death to report after a man died in a local hospital earlier this month. A construction professional collapsed after inspecting a roof in Hillsboro on June 28, one of the hottest days on record for the area. The man was hospitalized and succumbed to "heat stress" on July 9. (OPB)
