Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. A two-car crash injured four individuals, and firefighters had to pull one individual from a vehicle. The incident occurred on Sunday on Highway 219 near Southwest Burkhalter Road around 2 p.m. The roadway remained closed throughout the afternoon as authorities investigated the crash. (KPTV.com)
  2. Hear from Beaverton Pharmacy pharmacist Wade Irby about eligibility for kids under 5 to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Oregon over at Fox 12 Oregon. Debra Gil reports that the pharmacy expects the doses to be available later this week.
  3. A local chef is struggling after her Portland food cart pod was displaced by an incoming apartment building. Rock Creek resident, Lin Chen, owns Shanghai's Best, a food cart that was relocated in 2019 from a bustling downtown location along with many others to make way for the new Ritz-Carlton Residences. Chen said the city-provided new location in Portland's North Park Blocks was unsafe and failed to draw customers, so she moved shop as soon as she was able. Now you can find Chen's steamed buns and fried dumplings at Pine Street Market, located indoors on Southwest Second Avenue. (OregonLive)
  4. WashCo's conflict with Ridwell continues, and reporter Troy Shinn shares all the reasons. State officials defend county-managed monopolies on trash collection as a way to ensure access to garbage services for all residents. Ridwell reps said that when they began servicing Washington County residents, they weren't violating the monopoly because they were collecting items the county-approved collectors did not, but now that's changed: WashCo's Recycle+ service starts in July and will accept those pesky, formerly hard-to-recyclables. Ridwell is pursuing a lawsuit against the county. (Pamplin Media Group)
