First, today's weather:
Mostly cloudy throughout the day. Things are cooling down a bit #pslseason #fallvibes. Expect a high of 73 and a low of 53.
Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:
- Head over to Oregon ArtsWatch to read a Q&A with Chris Ayzoukian, director of Beaverton's new Reser Center for the Arts. He talks about how the new venue fits in with community members' desire for a walkable downtown and how a shift in Beaverton's identity led to a desire for a more homegrown arts and culture scene. Ayzoukian also addresses the need for the venue's content to reflect the various communities of Beaverton, rather than just the European arts. (Oregon ArtsWatch)
- Oregon's first all-electric school buses are now on the road, two of them in Beaverton. Advantages of these latest additions include reduced emissions and lower maintenance costs. One driver says the quieter performance makes student management easier— he can hear students better, and they can hear him. (KGW.com)
- The pandemic changed many aspects of our daily lives, including many of our daily commutes. School zones became pretty much defunct, and there were fewer pedestrians on the road for a long time. But things are getting back to normal(ish), and Beaverton police caution drivers to be aware of kids walking to school. Officers will be working extra patrols in school zones, which will hopefully serve as a reminder to take things easy. (KATU)
- Are you looking to make a move or invest in real estate? OregonLive offers a rundown of the top five Portland-area ZIP codes that homebuyers are targeting, based on pageviews. Among the list are 97008 (Neighbors Southwest) and 97007 (Aloha). The article cites Zillow in stating that Beaverton is one of the most sought-after locales in the Metro area for shoppers these days. (OregonLive)
- If you weren't already aware, September is National Emergency Preparedness Month, and Washington County Government has a few ideas to help you make the most of it. Each week, the county is offering activity ideas for helping prep your household for an earthquake or other natural disaster. This week's activity revolves around water storage. The agency recommends storing one gallon of water per person per day for 14 days, plus more if you have pets. (Patch)
