West Union Gas Station + Mental Health Awareness Week
Read the latest edition the Beaverton Daily! This is your five-minute guide to the most important things going on in the area.

Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Ash DeMello, ready to help you start your Monday with another edition of the Beaverton Daily.
First, today's weather:
Sun through high clouds. High: 68 Low: 48.
Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:
- Vikings are playing at Ron Tonkin Field these days, and, as a PSU alum myself, that makes me happy to claim them as my local team. Check out a recap of the Saturday night game against Southern Utah by Mike Lund at the Portland State Vikings page. Stout defense proved the difference as the Vikings allowed SU just 267 total yards and only 136 yards after the first quarter.
- Wondering what happened to plans for the gas station on West Union near 185th, the former location of the Mad Greek Deli? After several public meetings and site plan revisions, the developers submitted their final application to Washington County Land Use and Transportation (LUT) in March. LUT accepted the plans in September. A public hearing is likely to happen in November. Read more at Cedar Mill News.
- Have you noticed the white bike at the intersection of Cornell and Old Barnes Road? Cedar Mill News explains the history of the "Ghost Bike" tribute, here commemorating Kirke Johnson, who was struck and killed by a semi-truck in 2014. The memorial serves as a reminder to everyone to be aware of cyclists who share the roads.
- Head over to Pamplin Media Group to learn about local heroes like Tiffany Myers and Joshua Friant. Myers, who works as a 9-1-1 dispatcher, answered an emergency call from an 88-year-old woman whose house was on fire in early August. The woman had difficulty walking and needed assistance to get out of the building. Myers relayed the info to Friant, a firefighter, including key details that allowed him to locate the trapped woman in her home and help her escape safely.
- Beaverton School District reminds families of three steps that can help prevent suicide: Question, Persuade and Refer. Parents can find out more with suicide prevention training offered by Washington County Health in partnership with BSD. Pre-register to attend the seminar on Thursday, October 7. (Twitter)
