🌱Westview Wins State Tennis Champ + Brophy Trial Heads To Jury

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

This morning, my thoughts are with the families of the 19 murdered children and a teacher at a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school. Multiple other individuals were injured. There are no words to express appropriately the sadness caused by this epidemic of mass shootings. But with hope for a better future, here are the news and events for Beaverton.

First, today's weather:

Pleasant with clouds and sun. High: 75 Low: 54.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. An individual died while in the custody of the Washington County Jail. Officials identified the person as Crystal Leuenberger, 35, who was found dead less than 24 hours after her arrest on Monday, May 23. It's the second death of a person at the jail within two months. (Twitter)
  2. Westview students are being feted statewide following their win at the girls tennis state championship, which occurred May 19-21. It was the first win of its kind in the school's history. Jesuit came in second, trailing by nine points. (Portland Tribune; subscription required)
  3. NOLA Doughnuts has opened its much-anticipated Beaverton location, Andi Prewitt reports. Now you can head to the Beaverton Town Square to snag pastries inspired by the Big Easy's Cafe Du Monde. (Willamette Week)
  4. The Cedar Mill Grand Central Bakery was featured in Tuesday's edition of OregonLive (subscription required). The PNW-native bakery chain is set to transition to a new corporate structure, one which company honchos hope will help maintain ideals of "fair compensation and robust benefits" for employees.
  5. A Washington County-based romance novelist's trial for murder has gone to the jury. Nancy Crampton-Brophy stands accused of shooting her husband back in 2018. After 27 days in the courtroom, the jury finally retired to deliberate on Tuesday afternoon. (Beaverton Patch)
