Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Oregon 6A football schedules for 2022-23 are posted. Next season's key rivalry games include Jesuit hosting Beaverton and Tualatin at Tigard — both on Oct. 28. Alas, there's not to be a state championship rematch between Central Catholic and Tualatin. (OregonLive)
  2. You don't have to travel far to make use of your hiking boots, according to a roundup of trails in the Portland suburbs on Portland Monthly. Close-to-home options featured in the article include the 1.7-mile trail at Jenkins Estate in Beaverton, Nansen Summit Trail in Lake Oswego, the Tualatin River Greenway Trail and the Orenco Woods Nature Park in Hillsboro.
  3. The wife of the deputy who was injured in a fatal Beaverton crash on Wednesday said her husband is facing multiple surgeries and a lengthy rehab due to a badly injured pelvis. A car ran a red light on TV Highway and Murray in the early morning of April 27, slamming into Deputy Michael Trotter's patrol car. His wife, Heather Trotter, shared her perspective and more details regarding Trotter's condition via KGW.com. A crash team is still investigating the incident.
  4. Learn more about the high school students involved in the deadly April 27 crash at KATU. Juan Pacheco Aguilera, 16, and Matthew Amaya, 17, both students at Southridge High School, were killed in that incident. Three other teens were injured along with Deputy Michael Trotter, mentioned above. KATU staff visited with Jenny Elias, a friend of one of the victims at the crash site who, along with the rest of the community, is grieving the loss.
  5. See where Oregon's 36 counties rank in terms of food insecurity via KOIN.com. The article defines food insecurity as “a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life.” Washington County ranks 35, which means Beaverton locals mostly have enough to eat on a regular basis. Grant County, home to John Day and the Malheur National Forest, sits at number one.
