Woman Hit by Train in Beaverton Identified by Police
Beaverton resident Cindy Rodriguez, 26, was reportedly crossing the tracks and looking at her phone when she was hit, police said.

BEAVERTON, OR – Police identified the woman hit by a freight train in Beaverton on Thursday as 26-year-old Cindy Rodriguez, a Beaverton resident.
Rodriguez is still being treated for injuries sustained in the accident, which required officers to apply two tourniquets at the scene, according to Beaverton police spokesman Mike Rowe.
Both the train's engineer and conductor told police they saw Rodriguez prior to the accident and made every attempt to get her attention, Rowe said in a statement Friday, adding that the "tragedy looks to be distraction on the part of the victim."

Witnesses told police Thursday that Rodriguez was looking at her phone when she passed the lowered train-crossing arms and was hit near the intersection of Southwest Lombard Avenue and Southwest Farmington Road/Southwest Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, Rowe said. The train's horn could reportedly be heard by witnesses, and the crossing arms' alerts and flashing lights could also be heard and seen.

The investigation is showing that all of the warning devices were active before the time (Rodriguez) began crossing the roadway in the crosswalk with the rail crossing arm down at the outer edge of the crosswalk. The horn and bells were being used by the train, and the conductor was on the walkway of the engine yelling at her to get her attention.
Traffic and MAX service in the area was interrupted for several hours while police conducted an investigation.
