🌱Woman Killed On Farmington Road + Aloha Blaze Injures One

Happy Wednesday, people of Beaverton! Here's everything worth knowing around town today.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. A woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Beaverton on Tuesday morning around 7 a.m., police said. The incident caused the closure of Farmington Road and Southwest Hall Boulevard for several hours. An investigation is underway, and authorities are requesting anyone with information about the crime to call 503-629-0111. (Beaverton Patch)
  2. Flames engulfed a townhome in Beaverton on Tuesday morning, causing the evacuation of nearby Mountain View Middle School. The fire broke out on Southwest Britetree Circle around 11:15 a.m., and firefighters had the situation under control by 12:47 p.m. Students at the nearby school were dismissed early because of heavy smoke in the area. One injury was reported. (KOIN.com)
  3. Volunteers packed bags of food for about 120 homeless students at Beaverton High School, reports Marilyn Deutsch. The bags are designed to help the students, who rely on school meals during the school year, to avoid hunger over Spring Break. The effort is sponsored by the Oregon Food Bank, local grocery stores, the City of Beaverton and a local church. (Fox 12 Oregon)
  4. Beaverton High School's championship game made a problem readily apparent: Why don't Oregon schools have shot clocks for basketball? Nik Steng reports on national rules that will soon allow the systems in high school games as well as the complications that may ensue for Oregon schools. (OregonLive)
  5. Get a glimpse of life in Beaverton public schools post-mask mandate over at Fox12 Oregon. Educators say they're emphasizing respecting the choices of others as students and staff navigate the new mask optional policy. The change has brought some surprises: "A student who crossed the path today hadn't ever seen me without a mask before and made the comment, 'that's not what I expected,' I don't know if that was good or bad," relates Zan Hess, principal at Conestoga Middle School.
