Welcome back, Beaverton! I'm here in your inbox today to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on around town. Enjoy...

First, today's weather:

Low clouds may break. High: 73 Low: 53.

Here are the top five stories in Beaverton today:

  1. Deputy Michael Trotter, who was injured in the fatal crash on TV Highway involving a teen driver back in April, was released from the hospital to a rehabilitation center, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. The update comes approximately six weeks after the Beaverton crash that killed two Southridge High School Students. The driver accused of causing the crash, Xavier Denzel Rodriguez, 18, faces several charges, including manslaughter. (KGW.com)
  2. Hollywood alum David Duchovny is set to speak at the Cedar Hills Crossing location of Powell's Books this evening, reports Brenda Braxton. Duchovny is perhaps most famous for his longtime role as Fox Mulder in the X-Files series. However, he's appearing in Beaverton for another project: his "novelini" called "The Resevoir." 3. In the wake of multiple recent mass shootings, a Beaverton mom and longtime gun enthusiast is surrendering her firearms. Jenny Han said that she first fired a weapon around age 7 and has fond associations with shooting, but now she believes her ownership is an issue: "I think that being silent is making us complicit to the problem." Han surrendered her weapons to Beaverton Police, taking them out of circulation, Joelle Jones reported on June 7. Follow along with Han's story via KOIN.com.
  4. Tag along for Tuesday's Taco Challenge with Kohr Harlan via KOIN.com. Raina Huang was set to visit Livi's Taqueria in Tualatin with the goal of eating 5 lbs of tacos in 40 minutes (which happen to be half off every Tuesday). Livi's Taqueria is hosting the Taco Challenge two Tuesdays a month through the summer, offering free tacos to the first of five preselected individuals to eat 15 tacos in 15 minutes.
  5. On Thursday, 14,000-year-old bones are set to be dedicated at Tualatin's Ice Age visitor center. The Tualatin Public Library (18878 S.W. Martinazzi Ave.) will be the spot to enjoy a ribbon-cutting ceremony from the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail organization on Thursday, June 9. View a replica of the famous Tualatin mastodon, discovered near what's now a Fred Meyer's parking lot among other artifacts at the exhibition. (Pampln Media Group)
