Today's riddle: Why did the girl pig break up with the boy pig? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Gresham Japanese Garden debuts new roofed entrance (theoutlookonline.com) — Gresham's Tsuru Island Japanese Garden has unveiled a new handcrafted roofed entrance gate that both beautifies the park and allows staff to remotely open and close the island at sunrise and sunset. The cedar structure, inspired by traditional Japanese Torii gates, is the final major piece of a years-long renovation and is designed to enhance visitors' sense of serenity while also deterring vandalism.
2. Vancouver Woman Accused of Striking, Killing Gresham Construction Worker Turns Herself In (ground.news) — Police say the driver suspected of fatally striking a traffic flagger at a Gresham construction site on Northeast Division and Hogan has turned herself in about a month after the crash. The 26-year-old Vancouver woman is accused of hitting the Gresham road worker and leaving the scene, with investigators using camera footage and a license plate to identify a suspect before the arrest.
3. In Oregon, an Elegant Mass-Timber Library by Holst Architecture Makes a Grand Civic Statement (architecturalrecord.com) — Gresham's new East County Library is opening as a 95,000-square-foot mass-timber landmark designed to serve both city residents and a rapidly growing, diverse East Multnomah County. The building replaces a much smaller branch, adds community spaces like an auditorium, recording studio, and sensory-friendly rooms, and showcases exposed timber architecture meant to give local families long-term access to a welcoming civic hub.
4. County wants to delay ambulance service for Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village (theoutlookonline.com) — Residents near Gresham could see ambulance response times jump from about eight minutes to 15 if Multnomah County reclassifies Troutdale, Fairview, and Wood Village as "suburban" service areas. Local leaders, joined by Gresham and Portland officials, are pushing back hard, warning that longer waits for ambulances—despite Gresham firefighters often arriving first—could turn life‑threatening emergencies into tragedies.
5. Deputies investigating after man hurt in shooting southeast of Gresham (kptv.com) — A man was shot Thursday afternoon just southeast of Gresham, near SE Orient Drive and SE 292nd Place, and is expected to survive after being taken to the hospital. Multnomah County deputies are still investigating and have not made any arrests, so Gresham‑area residents may notice increased law enforcement presence while this developing case unfolds.
