Today's riddle: How do billboards talk? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Gresham makes offer to buy Amiton Building for 'due diligence' inspections (theoutlookonline.com) — Gresham city leaders have authorized an offer to buy the long-vacant Amiton Building downtown so inspectors can finally assess whether it can be saved or must be torn down. The move, approved 4-2 by City Council, wouldn't lock the city into owning the property long term, but would create public inspection records to help spur redevelopment at this key Main and Second intersection.
2. Officers found justified in Oregon shooting that killed suspect, K9 Kylo (chronline.com) — Gresham residents should know that a Sept. 24 homicide in a Southeast Market Street home led to a multi-agency chase ending in Portland, where officers fatally shot the suspect and police K9 Kylo. Prosecutors have reviewed body-camera and aerial footage and ruled the officers' use of force justified, declining to present the case to a grand jury.
3. Woman faces manslaughter, DUII for deadly hit-and-run of construction flagger in Gresham (kptv.com) — A 26-year-old Vancouver woman is facing manslaughter and DUII charges after an August 31 hit-and-run that killed construction flagger Miguel Jimenez while he worked in a marked zone in Gresham. Investigators say video footage and damage on her car led to her arrest; she's now being held in Multnomah County after transfer from Clark County Jail.
4. OPB's First Look: Sexual assault at UO (opb.org) — Residents in Gresham should know that at least nine people were recently detained in immigration arrests across Gresham, Troutdale, and eastern Portland, raising concern among local advocates. The same statewide roundup of news also covers University of Oregon sexual assault reports, a major I-5 construction project wrapping early, and Oregon's latest gubernatorial debate.
