Armed Suspect In Fairview Neighborhood Arrested

Joshua Weber was taken to hospital after sustaining an unspecified injury while negotiating with police from inside a Fairview home.

FAIRVIEW, OR — Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals found a Washington state shooting suspect after searching a neighborhood in the Fairview/Troudale area Thursday.

Joshua D. Weber, 22, is currently at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, according to Multnomah County Sheriff's officials. A resident of Yakima, Washington, Weber has a "fugitive from justice" charge pending in Oregon, though he was previously wanted by federal marshals for a shooting incident in Washington.

Just before 11:30 a.m. Dec. 28, law enforcement officials began pursuing Weber in the area near the Motel 6 in Troutdale after deputies on patrol spotted him. Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Marc Shrake said when deputies saw Weber, a car chase ensued down Northeast Halsey Street until Weber crashed and fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood.

"The seriousness of this issue makes it important that we lock (the area) down … until we can bring in our tactical teams to safely effect an arrest," Shrake told reporters at a media staging event Thursday afternoon.

Law enforcement established a perimeter and began door-to-door house searches, Shrake said.

Deputies reportedly found Weber inside a home in the area of Sixth and Lincoln streets. Police surrounded the house and started negotiations with Weber, Shrake said.

During the negotiations, a single gunshot was heard from inside the house, Shrake said, noting Weber continued communicating with authorities after the shot.

Police entered the home, found Weber, and began treating him for an unspecified wound. He was transported to hospital and his current status is unknown.

This post will be updated as more information is released.
