A family is alive, uninjured, and their pets are safe after they were alerted to a fire by a smoke detector.
It happened around 3:30 Sunday morning at 1715 SE 160th Avenue.
Units from the Portland and Gresham Fire Departments responded to the fire.

The two adults, two kids, and the family pets were safely outside when the firefighters arrived.
The fire had started in the garage attached to the family's one-story home but was spreading to the house through the attic.
