Gresham Man Who Was Missing Found Dead Southeast of Estacada

Nolan Scoggins was last seen leaving his home on Sunday morning. He did not take his cell phone with him.

Gresham Police say that Nolan Scoggins, the 78-year-old man who was reported missing on Sunday, has been found dead in the forest east of Estacada.

They say that he had last been seen leaving his home near Northeast 201st Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard around 9 Sunday morning.

Police were alarmed because he did not take his cell phone or his medication, which he was supposed to take every day. Because of that, they had said he was considered medically endangered.

Scoggins had told someone he was headed to the Estacada Ranger Station but it's closed on weekends. He didn't arrive there. Police said they weren't sure where he was headed.

They found his car on a forest service road southeast of Estacada. Search and rescue units finally found him about two miles from the car. He was in an area with about two feet of snow.

Police don't believe there was foul play and add the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
