Gresham Schools Takes Steps on Transgender Equity

Gender-neutral bathrooms are coming to the Gresham-Barlow School District.

The decision is one of three-steps the district is taking as part of a settlement with a transgender elementary teacher who had complained about harassment.

The district will pay $60,000 to Leo Soel as well as:

• install gender-free bathrooms;
• create clear policies regarding transgender teachers; and
• host mandatory trainings for Gresham principals.

"The District is pleased that the provisions of this agreement resolve concerns, enable us to put this issue to rest, and allow the district to move forward," the district said in a statement.
