Gresham Teen Misses out on State Poetry Title

A student from Gresham's Center for Advanced Learning was a finalist in the state's Poetry Out Loud Competition but fell short of the title

Brandon Czel (pictured above, center), a student at Gresham's Center for Advanced Learning, was at Willamette University this Saturday, giving it his poetry all.

Czel was selected as one of nine students competing for the state title in the annual Poetry Out Loud competition.

The winner got a trip to Washington, D.C. for the national competition the first week of May.

Czel was one of three winners at the Northern Regional Contest, which was held at Powell's Books at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton.

"Once again the caliber of performances was impressive and made selecting only three finalists from each competition a challenge," said the Arts Commission's arts education/Poetry Out Loud coordinator, Deb Vaughn.

Czel came up a little short.

the winner was Mitchell Lenneville, a senior at Baker Web Academy in Baker City.
