Gresham Woman Killed In Interstate-84 Car Crash

Effie Burns succumbed to her injuries after her Honda Civic left the interstate in Gilliam County. Her infant son was unhurt, police said.

THE DALLES, OR — A Gresham woman died Tuesday in a single vehicle crash east of The Dalles in Gilliam County; her infant son was in the car at the time of the crash but was unhurt, according to Oregon State Police.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. July 11, Effie P. Burns, 22, lost control of her 1996 Honda Civic sedan while traveling west on Interstate-84 near milepost 118 in Gilliam County, police said.

A preliminary investigation into the crash revealed Burns lost control of the vehicle as she crossed from the fast lane to the slow lane, ultimately leaving the roadway altogether and colliding with a rocky embankment, police said.

Burns was reportedly ejected from her car and succumbed to her injuries while emergency personnel were providing aid. Her son was secured in a child safety seat at the time of the crash and was not severely injured, police said, noting the child was transported to Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles for evaluation.
