MAX Platform Shooting Suspect Arrested, Identified: Police
Dawud Bryant, 21, for unknown reasons allegedly struck a MAX passenger before pulling a pistol and firing it at close range, barely missing.

GRESHAM, OR — Police on Sunday announced the arrest of the man suspected of firing a handgun at another man's head from close range, barely missing both the intended victim and his girlfriend, while exiting a MAX train at the TriMet platform near Northeast 172nd Avenue and East Burnside Street Friday morning.
Dawud Marquis Bryant, 21, was taken to the Multnomah County Jail for attempted murder and two counts of second degree assault. His bail is set at $750,000.
According to Gresham Police spokesman Sgt. John Rasmussen, a witness to the shooting called 911 just before noon Dec. 1.

On the train Bryant reportedly made eye contact with the male assault victim, whom he does not know, but didn't exchange any words until both men got off at the platform. As they stepped off the train, Bryant said something and pulled out a pistol.
What Bryant said is unclear, but following the outburst he struck the male victim on the head with the pistol and then fired one round at close range.

The bullet barely missed the male victim, Rasmussen said, noting that it also traveled through the female victim's clothing — missing her body — before embedding into the platform wall.
Bryant fled after the shooting but was taken into custody near Southeast 176th Avenue and Southeast Pine Street, about a quarter-mile away, Rasmussen said.
Bryant somehow dislocated his shoulder during his escape and was arrested without further incident, Rasmussen said. Bryant was then reportedly taken to hospital before getting checked into the county jail.
