Mentally Ill Man Missing In Gresham Found Safe

Michael Hernandez reportedly walked away from his group home late Christmas Day. He was found by officers on Tuesday.

GRESHAM, OR — A mentally ill man who went missing Monday night was found Tuesday after police sent out an alert for Gresham residents to be on the lookout.

Michael Hernandez, 54, was found safe Tuesday and taken to hospital for evaluation, police said.

A resident who lives around Northeast 160th Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street called police around 8:15 a.m. after Hernandez passed by their house, which is roughly half a mile from the group home where Hernandez started.

Police responded to the area and found Hernandez shortly after.

Police said Hernandez walked away from the group home without his medication sometime between 10 p.m. Monday and 12 a.m. Tuesday. Police said he was not likely wearing cold-weather clothes.
