Multnomah County Sheriff: Four Adults Rescued from Columbia River After Boat Flips

(UPDATED) The four adults were left in the Columbia River after their boat flipped around 10 a.m. April 7, county officials said.

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OR – Four adults needed rescuing from the Columbia River Friday after their boat capsized near Multnomah Falls, according to Multnomah County officials.

A motorist traveling along Interstate-84 contacted police after seeing the boat flip around 10 a.m. April 7, police said.

Emergency responders from the Corbett Fire Department, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Gresham Fire Department, Port of Portland, and American Medical Response Northwest (AMR) were able to pull the four unidentified individuals from the water shortly after their boat completely sank. They were floating without support when emergency crews finally rescued them, police said.

Three of the boaters were transported to local hospitals for non-life-threatening care, while the fourth was taken by Lifeflight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Wind and rough waters are said to have been contributing factors to the boat’s capsizing, police said.
