No One Wins: Police Arrest Drivers of Three Cars Racing on I-84

One car was going 123 miles per hour and another crashed as it tried to escape police.

Gresham, OR -- Three young drivers racing their carsΒ on I-84 early Thursday morning tried to evadeΒ police butΒ were apprehended. One car flew off the highway as it tried to escape and crashed.Β 

Multnomah County Sheriff's Department DeputiesΒ were alerted to the race around 1 a.m. and pursued the cars, clocking oneΒ of themΒ asΒ going atΒ 123 miles per hour.Β 

Deputies lost the racers at first, who dispersed once they realized they were being chased. Putting out descriptions of the vehicles, police were able to identify the carsΒ in the surrounding area.Β

Angel Eduardo Canseco, 24,Β was driving a silver Dodge Charger when he was pulled overΒ by a Fairview officer. The officerΒ confirmed the car was indeed one of those racing, and arrested Canseco. Nearby, 24-year-oldΒ Oliver Reyes-ZaragozΒ and aΒ Ford Focus were found, and also arrested for being involved in the race.Β 

Canseco and Reyes-Zaragoz were being taken in whenΒ a report came in of a crash atΒ Exit 18 off westbound I-84. This was theΒ third car involved, driven by 22-year-oldΒ Carlos Joshua De Jesus. Trying toΒ exit the highway heΒ couldn't handle the turn, sending theΒ Dodge Charger he was drivingΒ airborne over the onramp to westbound I-84.Β

It then tumbledΒ through the grass andΒ over the road and guardrail beforeΒ crashing down the Β roadΒ sideΒ embankment. De Jesus and theΒ three other people in the car were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.Β 

All three drivers arrested are facingΒ multiple charges.Β
