Oregon Wildfire Update: 15-Mile Fire Grows, Evacuations Canceled

The fire, burning east of The Dalles, has grown to 3,500 acres. No injuries or homes lost.

A wildfire burning east of The Dalles that has forced evacuations is 60 percent contained, according to Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue.

The fire grew to 3,500 acres overnight but an evacuation order has been rescinded and people allowed back to their homes.

More than 60 firefighters from Mid-Columbia and other agencies are on scene.

Officials say it started around 5:30 Thursday afternoon and traveled from I-84 up a hill to 15 Mile Road.

It forced evacuations from Celilo Village. The Bureau of Land Management has been assisting and The Red Cross-Cascades Region has set up an emergency shelter at The Dalles Middle School.

While there have been evacuations, as of 1o:00 a.m. Thursday, no homes had been lost and there had been no injuries.
