Reynolds High School Burglary Attempt Foiled By Police

George Brooks and Reuben Bentz were arrested early Monday after police reportedly caught the men in the middle of an alleged burglary.

TROUTDALE, OR — Police from three agencies foiled a burglary attempt at Reynolds High School in Troutdale early Monday, resulting in two arrests, according to Multnomah County Sheriff's officials.

George Albert Brooks, 59, and Reuben James Bentz, 34, were taken to the Multnomah County Jail on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, attempted theft, and interfering with a police officer.

According to police, shortly after 3 a.m. July 24, Multnomah County Sheriff's deputies responding to a reported burglary-in-process at Reynolds High School heard the suspects in a part of the school where renovations are being done. After finding a door to the are pried open, deputies setup a perimeter around the building with help from the Gresham, Fairview, and Portland police departments.

Hearing police closing in, the suspects reportedly tried to make their escape through an open field but were pursued by deputies and a Portland Police Bureau K9.

After both suspects were taken in to custody, one complained about trouble breathing following the foot chase and the other was treated for a dog bite.

Wheelbarrows loaded with tools were found in the construction area following the arrests. Police believe the men planned to take them from the school.
