Teen Shot In Gresham During Car Sale Gone Bad, Police Say
Derrick Pierce, a man who reportedly had nothing to do with the private car sale taking place, allegedly punched and shot the buyer.

GRESHAM, OR — A teen was shot Thursday night during a private car sale gone bad in Gresham, according to police. The suspected shooter has been arrested and victim is expected to survive.
Derrick Troy Pierce, 28, was taken to Multnomah County Jail for attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and unlawful use of a weapon. His bail is set at $512,500.
Gresham police headed to the sound of gunfire near Southeast 182nd Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard just after 9:15 p.m. Jan. 18.

Police said the victim, 18-year-old Milwaukie resident Ashton Goleman, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body and was taken to hospital by his friends.
Witnesses reportedly told police Goleman and his friends had arranged to meet someone to purchase a car through the sales site Offer Up, but Pierce — who had nothing to do with either the car seller or Goleman and his friends — began to "verbally assault the group before punching Goleman in the face," police said.

As he walked away from the confrontation, Pierce allegedly fired one round, hitting Goleman.
Pierce was identified as a suspect and caught leaving the area on foot, police said. There is no clear motive for Pierce's actions at this time.
Neither Goleman nor Pierce have any significant criminal history, and they don't appear to know each other.
