Kelley Point Park Closed After Second Drowning in Almost As Many Weeks
Several agencies were involved in the search but it was too late.
One day after a ten-year-old girl drowned at Kelley Point Park, the park has been closed temporarily. It was the second drowning in just over two weeks at the popular spot.
A ten-year-old girl drowned Sunday afternoon at Kelley Point Park. She was the second drowning in just over two weeks at the popular spot.
Dispatchers were told the girl went under around 4:00 Sunday afternoon and despite the large search and rescue response, by 5:00 the operation was changed to a recovery operation from a rescue operation.

The girl's body was found about 90 minutes later.

The United States Coast Guard, Portland Fire & Rescue, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office were involved in the operation.

Swimming had already been banned at the park because of the tricky conditions of the water - where there is a significant drop off after same very shallow water.
