Three Minors, One Adult Arrested For Shooting Death Of Gresham Teen

The alleged murderers range in age from 15 to 20 years old, police said. They're suspected of killing 17-year-old Jose Morales on July 29.

GRESHAM, OR — Police on Sunday announced the arrests of four people suspected of murdering 17-year-old Jose Ricardo Morales Saturday night. Three of the suspected murderers are also minors, Gresham officials said.

Obed Garcia, 15, of Wood Village; brothers Francisco Martinez-Chavez, 16, and Cristian Martinez-Chavez, 17, of Troutdale; and Isai Guzman-Ramirez, 20, of Portland, are all facing murder charges following their arrests shortly after the shooting death of Morales on July 29.

According to Gresham police, officers were called to the intersection of Southeast 187th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street shortly after 10:30 p.m Saturday. When they arrived, officers found Morales near the southwest corner of the intersection, police said, noting that Morales was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four suspects were arrested nearby and without incident shortly after officers arrived at the scene, police said.

The East County Major Crimes Team is reportedly investigating whether the shooting is gang related, police said. Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to call Gresham police at 503-618-2719.

The minor suspects had their first court appearance Monday at 2:15 p.m., according to county spokeswoman Rachel McCarthy.
