Suit filed last week by Metro charges they cut down the trees to enhance their views.

Two couples in Gresham are being sued for allegedly cutting down nearly four dozen trees in a protected natural area.

The suit, filed in Multnomah County Court, by the regional government agency Metro, charges the couples with clearing a 400-foot area by their homes, which are located on Gresham Butte above the Springwater Corridor Trail.

The suit, which was first reported by the Oregonian, charges the cutting of the trees resumed in a "substantial increase in the value of defendants home and property."
