Today's riddle: What do you call a one-legged Big Foot? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Hermiston council to vote on AWS water agreement (eastoregonian.com) — Hermiston's city council is set to vote on a major water and wastewater agreement with Amazon Web Services that would help fund new sewer infrastructure along Feedville Road and Highway 207. Councilors will also consider requiring petition filers to live in Hermiston, annex 3.72 acres for new housing, and review transportation plan updates ahead of October hearings.
2. Ginger Haley Passes Away at 67 (northeastoregonnow.com) — A longtime Hermiston resident, Virginia Marie "Ginger" Haley, has died at 67 after making the city her home for three decades. Remembered as generous, social, and devoted to family, she recently attended the 11th Street Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. No services are planned yet, and Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is handling arrangements.
3. Hermiston students show progress in math, science test scores (eastoregonian.com) — Hermiston families are seeing mixed state test results this year, with local students improving in math and science but slipping in English Language Arts compared to last year. Elementary and sixth-grade math scores outpaced state averages, while 11th-grade performance declined. The district says it's reviewing the data and will send individual score reports to many families this fall.
4. Hermiston woman, 101, to take part in Bridge of the Gods ceremony (eastoregonian.com) — A 101-year-old Hermiston resident, Linis Rozema, will help reenact a historic handshake on the Bridge of the Gods this Thursday, marking the span's 100th anniversary. Living in Hermiston since 1950, she's worked locally, raised five children, and now shares her family's remarkable Columbia River history while still keeping house and cooking for her son.
