1. Northeastern Oregon births: Sept. 30, 2026 (eastoregonian.com) — Several Hermiston families are welcoming new babies, with recent births recorded at Good Shepherd Medical Center and parents listed as Hermiston residents. The roundup also includes newborns from nearby towns across Northeastern Oregon, offering neighbors a chance to celebrate growing local families and recognize familiar last names from around the community.
2. Several national brands in negotiations to open stores in Hermiston (eastoregonian.com) — Hermiston residents could soon see several new national retailers, including a grocery store, discount shop, coffee chain and soft-goods store, as negotiations advance with the help of consulting firm Retail Strategies. City leaders heard that recent successes like Chipotle and Marshalls are drawing more interest, and even the vacant Rite Aid building on Highway 395 may have a new tenant in the works.
3. Umatilla Electric wins 4 NWPPA communications awards (eastoregonian.com) — Hermiston-based Umatilla Electric Cooperative just picked up four communications awards from the Northwest Public Power Association, including top honors for photography, social media and its Ruralite magazine. The recognition highlights the co-op's efforts to keep local members clearly informed about their power service and community programs.
4. Medford council, planning commission to discuss data centers (rv-times.com) — A Medford study session on data centers comes as Oregon debates their environmental and infrastructure impacts, including a proposed facility on 100 acres of BLM land near Hermiston. With a statewide pause on data centers on state lands, the Hermiston-area project on federal land highlights how future facilities could affect water, energy, and jobs in Eastern Oregon.
5. Understanding Data Centers (northeastoregonnow.com) — Eastern Oregon's growing network of Amazon Web Services data centers is bringing thousands of jobs, major infrastructure investment and new community partnerships, including support for the Hermiston Aquifer water project. The piece explains what data centers do, how they choose locations, and how AWS is addressing concerns about water and power use while working with Umatilla Electric Cooperative.
