• New data center in Hillsboro could be 200 feet away from high school (katu.com) — A massive new data center is proposed less than 200 feet from Hillsboro's Liberty High School, submitted just before the city's 120‑day pause on new data centers. City planners and Washington County leaders are now weighing new rules on where such facilities can be built, including setbacks from schools, parks, and natural areas that could directly affect this project.
• Pipes as power plants: How cities can use their water systems to generate clean energy (smartcitiesdive.com) — Hillsboro's water system is quietly generating clean electricity, thanks to an in-pipe hydropower turbine installed in 2020 that now offsets much of the power used by Hillsboro Ballpark. The article explains how similar projects in Beaverton, Tualatin, and other Oregon cities cut energy costs, boost resilience, and could be replicated elsewhere.
• 12 Oregon cultural groups split $1 million • Oregon ArtsWatch (orartswatch.org) — A Hillsboro-based filmmaker, Sahar al-Sawaf, just received a $100,000 Creative Heights grant to produce a documentary fostering dialogue between Iraqi-American hosts and U.S. veterans. The award is part of $1 million the Oregon Community Foundation is distributing to 12 arts projects statewide, supporting everything from experimental basketry to disability-centered musical theater and interactive installations.
