📰 News we're reading

1. Lead Found In Air Near Hillsboro And Troutdale Airports (iheart.com) — A new Oregon State and Portland State study found significantly elevated lead levels in moss samples from neighborhoods around Hillsboro Airport, confirming aviation fuel as the dominant source. Researchers say lead can linger in local soil and dust, urging Hillsboro-area parents to consider lead testing for children and to use an online map to check airport-related lead risks.

2. 6 Hillsboro elementary schools have new principals this school year (youroregonnews.com) — Six Hillsboro School District elementary schools, including Imlay, Mooberry, Patterson, Quatama, Rosedale, and North Plains, are starting the 2026–27 year with new principals drawn from within the district. Families can expect familiar faces in new leadership roles, many of them bilingual educators, as longtime principals shift positions and several educators step into their first principalships.

3. 1 person hurt after car crashes into Hillsboro apartment; incident under investigation (kptv.com) — A car crashed into a ground-floor apartment on NE Overlook Drive near NE Cornell Road in Hillsboro, sending one person to the hospital with injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening. No one was inside the apartment at the time, and Hillsboro Police have detained the driver while they continue investigating the cause of the crash.

4. Trammell Crow Company Starts Work on 295k sf Spec Industrial Project in Oregon (rentv.com) — A major expansion at Hillsboro's Sewell Corporate Park is underway, adding two speculative industrial buildings totaling nearly 295,000 square feet by March 2027. Alongside the new VanRose Technology Center on NE Huffman Road, these projects could bring more jobs, tenants, and traffic to the city's growing industrial corridors and strengthen the local tax base.

5. Pacific Northwest Data Centers Hit Near-Zero Vacancy as CBRE Reports Record 1.4% Demand in H1 2026 (ground.news) — Hillsboro's Silicon Forest data centers are effectively full, part of a near-zero vacancy crunch across the Pacific Northwest highlighted in a new CBRE report. With local jurisdictions slowing new development, the squeeze could affect future tech growth, power planning, and the availability of hosting capacity for companies that rely on Hillsboro's data infrastructure.
