• Genentech breaks ground on device fill-finish manufacturing facility in Oregon (plantservices.com) — Genentech is investing $750 million to double its Hillsboro manufacturing campus, adding a 211,000‑square‑foot device fill‑finish facility expected to create about 250 high‑wage jobs plus 200 construction positions. The expansion, slated to begin commercial operations in 2031, will use advanced automation and AI to produce medicines while strengthening the U.S. supply chain, underscoring Hillsboro's growing role in Oregon's high‑tech manufacturing economy.
• 2027 Grants Will Expand Access to Exercise Programs for People Affected by Cancer (healthandfitness.org) — Hillsboro's Hawthorn Farms Athletic Club is among ten U.S. fitness centers receiving a new American Cancer Society-backed grant to expand exercise programs for people affected by cancer. The funding will train at least three local staff in exercise oncology, helping residents in treatment or recovery access safe, research-backed fitness support close to home.
• Former U.S. Army Soldier Pleads Guilty to Gathering and Transmitting National Defense Information (chatnewstv.com) — A Hillsboro man has pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to gather and transmit sensitive U.S. Army defense information, including details on combat vehicles, to contacts in China. The former soldier, arrested in Oregon in 2025, now faces up to 10 years in prison and will be sentenced in December 2026 in Portland.
