He allegedly stabbed her in the heart and had intended to rape her. There were no witnesses to the attack, which happened in the middle afternoon. Several people reported seeing someone who matched his description near the scene.

Before she died, Laube - a cancer survivor and mother of two - was able to give a partial description to a neighbor who found her.

A detective in Lane County noticed the similarity between the sketch and Tinoco, who was being held there in the rape case.

A search of Tinoco's home - he lived near where Laube had been murdered - turned up clothes that matched the description as well as a knife.

The trial - once it begins - is expected to last several weeks.
