Cats Displaced by Louisiana Floods Arrive in Oregon for Adoption

Eighteen cats are being flown here from shelters in New Orleans.

Eighteen cats that have been displaced by the floods in Louisiana are being flown to Oregon where they will be put up for adoption. The Sherwood-based Cat Adoption Team is coordinating the rescue

The cats - which had been in two shelters in New Orleans - were broken into two groups. The first eight were flown to Portland on Monday and the second group will be flown on Thursday.

"The Cat Adoption Team works every day to take in cats and kittens from local shelters and rescue groups in our area,”"said Karen Green, CAT’s executive director. "Animal shelters in Louisiana have been through so much with the recent flooding. We are grateful to be able to do a small part to help by bringing some of their cats here for adoption."

The cats will end up at CAT's headquarters in Sherwood where they will undergo a medical examination and receive whatever shots and treatment they need. They will also receive microchips.

The cats will likely be ready for adoption by the end of the week.
