Fall Leaf Pick-Up Program Begins This Week In Hillsboro
Public Works crews cover 230 miles of Hillsboro streets to pick up fallen leaves from Oct. 30 to January 2018.

HILLSBORO, OR — Crews for the city's Public Works Department this week began collecting leaves from Hillsboro neighborhoods as part of the city's curbside leaf pick-up program.
From Oct. 30 to January 2018, Hillsboro Public Works employees will keep clear roughly 230 miles of Hillsboro's roads in an effort to minimize the possibility of flooding caused by clogged storm drains. Additionally, the city will host three food drive/leaf drop-off events at the Washington County Fairgrounds Sports Complex on Saturdays in November and December.
Maps and schedules for neighborhood leaf pick-ups can be found on the city's website.

To help crews as they traverse the nine service areas around Hillsboro, Public Works officials have issued the following guidelines for residents who plan to take advantage of the seasonal service:
- Pile your leaves in a row on your street a minimum of 18 inches away from your curb.
- Leaf rows need to be less than three feet high.
- Do not place leaves in the street any earlier than one week before the scheduled start date for your area.
- Leaves need to be from street trees only.
- Crews will not pick up yard debris, sticks, grass clippings, construction materials, or garbage.
- Place leaves separate from garbage cans and yard debris bins.
- Loose leaves are preferred instead of bagged. If bags are necessary, please use biodegradable paper bags. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
- Do not block mailboxes, driveways, or intersections with your leaf piles.
- Remove any basketball hoops or other obstructions, including cars, to allow for the leaf pickup equipment to collect leaves.
The food drive/leaf drop-off events will be held on Nov. 18, Dec. 2., and Dec. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Northeast 28th Avenue, next to the tennis courts, south of Northeast Veterans Drive. All food donations will go to local families in need.
