Fire Forces Hillsboro Family to Flee Home

A woman grabbed her children and fled their home Wednesday morning when she spotted flames.

She told firefighters that around the same time the smoke alarm went off.

She grabbed her kids - ages one and two - fled the apartment, and called 911.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and spent about 20 minutes clearing smoke.

They were able to determine the fire started in the bedroom but have not yet figured out the cause.

The family did not have renters insurance nor did the structure have residential sprinklers. They will be staying with friends while their apartment is repaired.

There were no injuries though the woman originally complained of having trouble breathing. She declined an offer to be taken to a hospital.
